Manga in Japan日本の漫画について

It's strange, In America it always seemed like I was reading manga. But, now that I actually live in Japan, I barley pick it up. I do occasionally check out some of the monthly magazines just to see what's current though. Let's take a look...
不思議なことだけど、アメリカに住んでたときいつも漫画を読んでいたけど、日本に来てからはめったに読まなくなった。でも時々、最新流行がわかるように月刊誌を手に入れる。見てみよう…。


I'm no expert, but these three magazines seem to be the best; Kodansha's Afternoon, Shueisha's Ultra Jump, and Shogakukan's Ikki. There are also weekly magazines, but let's stick with the monthlies for now.
専門家じゃないけれど、これらの雑誌が一番よいと思う。講談社のアフタヌーン、集英社のウルトラジャンプ、小学館のＩＫＫＩ。週刊誌もあるけど、とりあえず月刊誌にしよう。

One of my favorite mangaka is Daisuke Igarashi. He's probably best know in the states for Children of the Sea. Anyway, his work (and for a while Matsumoto Taiyo's too) is published in Ikki. I bought the issue you see above because it has what looks like a new series by him. Unfortunately he just did that cover and a poster... No story yet. A giant advertisement... I felt duped. But it wasn't a total loss. There was some pretty strange cool stuff (see below) by a guy named Murai.
今、好きな漫画家の中に五十嵐大介という漫画家がいる。アメリカでは海獣の子供という漫画が一番知られている。彼の作品はＩＫＫＩで出版されている。上に見える漫画を買った理由は彼の新しい作品がありそうだったからけど、あいにくそのカバーと中のポスターだけだった。話は全然なくて、ちょっとだまされたような気分になった。でも、すべてが失敗というわけじゃなくＭＵＲＡＩと言う漫画家の格好よくって妙な漫画が載っていた。


Ultra Jump is also pretty consistently good. Right now Cloth Road by okama and Dogs by Shirow Miwa stand out to me.
ウルトラジャンプにも期待できる。今、ＯＫＡＭＡが描いているＣＬＯＴＨ　ＲＯＡＤと三輪士郎のＤＯＧＳが目立つ。


...and finally there is Afternoon. This has one of my favorite comics, Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal. It also has another one of my favorite mangaka's latest work. Tsutomu Nihei's Knights of Sidonia.
そして、アフタヌーン。ここには高校のころから好きな漫画がある。沙村広明の「無限の住人」という。そして、今大好きな弐瓶勉の「シドニアの騎士」という漫画も載っている。

The plot thickens... 筋が厚くなる

I have no idea if anyone can tell what's going on here. The pace of this manga is slowwwwwwwww...

I might have to re-think my strategy. ...It might just be better to release these pages on my deviantART account and collect them here when they're done.

I'm starting to think it might be cool to use this blog as a place to write about "the Japanese manga scene" as I set about trying to figure it out.

hmm....

このページで何が起きているか誰か理解できるか僕には分からないんだけど。この漫画のペースは、お、そ、す、ぎ、る。。。

このブログの計画を考え直さないといけないかもしれない。deviantARTで公表して、で、それが終わったら、ここに集めた方がいいだろうか？
それから、僕が「日本の漫画業界」を勉強しながら、それについてもこのブログを更新しようかな〜と、今思っている。

どうだろう？
